Robert C. Johnson, the Brian and Jeannelle Brady Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Notre Dame, will speak at Pizza, Pop and Politics about what voters should know about tariffs and trade.
Tariffs are front and center in economic policy debates. Did tariff liberalization and rising trade lead to declining manufacturing employment in the United States? Will higher tariffs bring those jobs back, and at what cost? What does U.S. law say about when tariffs can be changed and why? And who ultimately pays for tariffs? Should tariffs be used to achieve foreign policy objectives? These are just a few of the questions voters should ask. The time is ripe to discuss them, and many more.
Pizza, Pop and Politics is hosted by the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights and ND Votes, a nonpartisan initiative that aims to foster conscientious engagement in political and civic life among students. The student-led initiative’s activities include promoting voter education, registration, and mobilization.
