Hyun Jae Stephen Chu, originally from Goyang, Republic of Korea, received his B.A. in Economics and Financial Engineering and his M.A. in Economics from Korea University. Before joining the Ph.D. program at Notre Dame, Stephen worked as a research analyst in the Population and Strategy Analysis Division at the Korean National Assembly Budget Office (NABO).

His current research interests include econometrics, macroeconomics, international finance, machine learning, and monetary and fiscal policy.
