Biography

Michael Pries received his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University in 1999, and his BA in economics from Notre Dame in 1993. He was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland prior to joining the Notre Dame Department of Economics in 2007. His primary field of research is macroeconomics, with a focus on labor markets. His current research focuses on the amplification and persistence of shocks to the labor market and on cross-country differences in labor market performance. He has published in the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economic Studies, the Review of Economic Dynamics, and the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. He teaches macroeconomics at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and also teaches Financial Economics, the first course in the Concentration in Financial Economics and Econometrics.
